NFL Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Jaguars, Jets, & Steelers

Cowboys

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said that they still want to have RB DeMarco Murray back next year, but there’s no guarantee he’ll come back to them with the offers he receives.

“It’s really tough for a player to not look and see what his options may be, and at the same time he understands the business of football that we can only do so much at each possession,” Jones said on Sirius XM Tuesday, via NFL.com. “We’ve got to at the end of the day decide how we want to divide up the pie. Of course we certainly want to give a nice piece of it to DeMarco. We’ll just see how that works out. We really feel we got a great relationship with DeMarco and his agent Bill Johnson.

Jones added that there are “certainly no guarantees and no promises that he’s going to bring offers back to us and at end of the day I do think he wants to stay in Dallas. I know he knows we want him here.”

• Jones said of their decision to franchise Dez Bryant: “Just because we tagged him doesn’t mean we’ll let the year play out. We’re working on a long-term deal.”

Eagles

• Alex Marvez reports that the Eagles called at least one other team to gauge interest in LeSean McCoy before trading him to the Bills.

Jaguars

• Ryan O’Halloran suggests Packers WR Randall Cobb, Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin, Broncos TE Julius Thomas and possibly Dolphins TE Charles Clay (transition tag) as offseason targets the Jaguars should consider.

Jets

• Aaron Wilson reports that the Jets worked out free agent S Jordan Pugh.

Steelers

• Dale Lolley of the Observer-Reporter can see the Steelers being an option for veteran OLB Trent Cole once he’s officially released by the Eagles.
