NFL Notes: Draft, Coaching Candidates, Bills, Eric DeCosta, Vikings

Draft

  • Senior Bowl director Phil Savage said this past weekend that he plans to invite UCLA QB Brett Hundley and Oregon QB Marcus Mariota as fourth-year juniors if they declare for draft. (Jason Cole)

Bills

  • Jason La Canfora continues to hear that there is a โ€œvery strong possibilityโ€ Bill Polian will take some sort of โ€œfootball czarโ€ role with Bills.
  • La Canfora adds that Polianโ€™s son, Chris, will not be joining him in Buffalo.

Eric DeCosta

Albert Breer reports that Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta is reportedly drawing โ€œbig NFL interest.โ€

Reports have already confirmed that the Jets are interested in him. Breer mentions that the Bears unlikely to be a serious option for him if Ted Phillips remains in place with the team.

According to Breer, there are โ€œtangible incentivesโ€ for DeCosta to stay in Baltimore and succeed Ozzie Newsome as their GM.

Coaching Candidates

  • Kent Somers reports that every NFL team with a head-coaching vacancy has contacted the Cardinals about DC Todd Bowles.
  • Jason La Canfora expects Panthers DC Sean McDermott and Bengals DC Paul Guenther to get some looks in regards to head coaching opportunities.

Vikings

  • HC Mike Zimmer made it clear that Teddy Bridgewater โ€œis the quarterback,โ€ and there wonโ€™t be a competition next year. (Ben Goessling)
