Head-Coaching Candidates
Tom Pelissero of NFL Media offers a list of NFL assistant coaches who could generate interest next year for head-coaching vacancies around the league.
Pelissero’s list includes:
- Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy
- Seahawks defensive coordinator Kris Richard
- Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel
- Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia
- Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo
- Raiders offensive coordinator Todd Downing
- Dolphins defensive coordinator Matt Burke
Pelissero admits that it’s shaping up to Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and everyone else, much like it was last year. Sources tell Pelissero that McDaniels is “ready and excited if the right opportunity comes.”
Some other names that will likely draw interest include:
- Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich
- Panthers defensive coordinatorย Steve Wilks
- Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther
- Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub
- Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin

- Eaglesย defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz
- Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy
- Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier
- Seahawks offensive line coach/assistant head coach Tom Cable
- Buccaneers defensive coordinator Mike Smith
Bengals

- Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said during a radio interview that they will “absolutely not” be trading one of their receivers before the upcoming deadline. (Jon Machota)
Seahawks
- The Seahawks officially ruled out G Luke Joeckel for Week 8’s game on Friday.
- The Seahawks have RB C.J. Prosise listed as doubtful and C Justin Britt, DE Marcus Smith, and CB Jeremy Lane all as questionable.
Steelers
- The Steelers officially ruled out RT Marcus Gilbert, DL Stephon Tuitt and TE Vance McDonald for Sunday’s game.
