To start, Darren Urban of the Cardinals website notes that the owners of the Aizona Cardinals recently visited with Blaine Gabbert and even held a private workout with him. While the fact that the Cardinals had private workout with Gabbert isn’t all that surprising, the inclusion of the teams owners is actually surprising.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen tweeted that “if they can get him, they will” which only adds to theย consensusย that Arizona seems to be doing everything within their power to land Gabbert.
The problem for the Cardinals is that the both Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert could be taken with any of the first four picks in the upcoming draft which leaves them at the mercy of the other teams unless they are able to workout a deal to swap positions.
Yesterday, it was reported that Arizona has been the most “active” team in pursuing a trade for Kevin Kolb which may not even require them to part with the No. 5 overall pick. From everything that has been reported and mentioned in the last three days it seems as though Arizona is making every effort to find the best solution to their quarterback problems whether that’s drafting a player or getting one via the trade market. A lot can be made about the team visits with draft prospects and private workouts but a lot would have to happen for either of the top quarterbacks to fall to No. 5 so it would seem logical that the Cardinals would have to look to the trade market for a quarterback or draft one in the early part of the second-round.
