NFL Rumors: Draft, Browns, Dolphins, Lions, & Patriots

Draft

• Rand Getlin reports that Portland State LS Kameron Canaday has had private workouts with the Cardinals and Broncos.
• Texas Tech WR/KR Jakeem Grant had a private workout with the Colts, has another one scheduled with the Jets, and a team visit with the Cowboys, according to Getlin.
• Aaron Wilson reports that Toledo WR Alonzo Russell has a private workout with the Cowboys.
• According to Aaron Wilson, North Carolina Central DB Ryan Smith is scheduled to visit with the Buccaneers.
• Matt Miller reports that Clemson S Jayron Kearse moved very well in his workout with Panthers and they were impressed overall.

Browns

• NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he’s scheduled some time to get an update on Browns WR Josh Gordon‘s reinstatement effort in the “next week or so.” (Nate Ulrich)

Dolphins

• Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins will look strongly at drafting a cornerback at No. 13 overall.
• According to Jackson, the Dolphins recently met with Florida CB Vernon Hargreaves after his Pro Day on Tuesday, and Hargreaves mentioned that Miami appears to be very interested.
• Jackson expects Jermon Bushrod, Kraig Urbik, Dallas Thomas, Billy Turner and Jamil Douglas all to compete at guard.

Lions

• According to Andrew Brandt of MMQB.com, the Lions the showed the most concrete interest in OT Russell Okung before he signed with the Broncos.
• Brandt mentions that the Lions offered him a similar first year to what he eventually received from Denver, but Okung wasn’t “overjoyed with either the marketplace or the prospect of signing with Detroit” and began reaching out to other teams.
• Okung wanted to remain on the West Coast if possible and liked the Broncos’ culture of success.

Patriots

• NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters on Wednesday that he considered Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s appeal to return their first-round pick, but ultimately decided there will be no change in the penalty. (Tom Curran)
