Despite what has been an underwhelming season from the Houston Texans, several reports indicate that Gary Kubiak may not get fired after all. If fact there’s a possibility that the Texans could pair him with Wade Phillips next season in an attempt to shore up the defense while keeping the teams offensive attack in place.
Jason La Canfora tweets: โSpeaking to coaches and executives today, hearing rumblings of Wade Phillips possibly landing as coordinator in Houston with Kubiak as head coach.โ
Peter King of SI added:ย โWas told today: โDonโt fire Kubiak yet. You might be wrong.โ
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle writes: โAfter the Texans lost at Denver, I thought [Texans owner] Bob McNair would fire Gary Kubiak. Now I donโt. I believe Kubiak will be back.โ
Houston Texans owner, Bob McNair is known for his loyalty and patience which are likely the only things saving Kubiak his job. Bringing in a new defensive coordinator is must but it would be surprising to see the team but aย band-aid over such a big wound. There are a number of high-profile head coaches that could be available and interested in the Texans job which makes the idea even stranger. If this decision is made there is no telling what Texans will do given the strong public outcry.
