Jim Thomas ofย the St. Louis Post-Dispatch outlines the O.J. Atogwe situation that has gotten some coverage in the last twenty-four hours. Atogwe can force the Rams to either pay him $8 million for next season or cut him if he chooses to not void his current deal.
From Atogwe’s view point, it would make the most sense for him to stick with the deal and leave the decision up to the Rams. There is very little chance that he’ll be able to command ย $8 million ย on the open market given the amount of available safeties, so leaving the decision up to Rams still gives him theย opportunityย to make a staggering salary or he’ll end up where he could’ve if he had voided the deal.
There are a number of teams that will need help at the safety position so he’ll be able to find team if the Rams choose to release him. Just speculating but the Cowboys, Texans, Jaguars, and Saints could all be options once a new CBA is in place.
