ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas reports that Panthers have already made it clear that they will target Andrew Luck if he declares for the draft.
Panthers owner has also mentioned that the team will not trade out of the top spot and are instead “looking for someone that can be a top-flight player and hopefully make us a better team.”
Luck’s upside far out ways the risk in drafting him No. 1 even though it would essentially make the Jimmy Clausen pick a waste. Finding a star quarterback has become so important to the success of teams that it’s basically worth a first and second-round pick to solidify the position. Just ask the Cardinal fans if they would be willing to give up their first two picks for a franchise quarterback.
