ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas reports that the Carolina Panthers have already spoken with Steve Smith regarding a possible trade. Yasinskas mentions that the Panthers discussed the idea back in January and areย “work with him” if he feels that he would like to move on.
Gaston Gazette’s Steve Reed has confirmed thatย Smith “does want out,” and that hisย preferredย destinations would be either San Diego or Baltimore. The Panthers mentioned that they’re not willing to release him and intend to get something in return for him.
Both the Chargers and Ravens could use another solid wide-receiver and Smith has been very productive while in a good offense so there’s a chance that a deal could get done at some point. Smith will be 32 at the start of the 2011 so his his best years could be behind but that’s not to say that he can’t be productive.
