‘No Scheduled Talks’ Between Cowboys & Dak Prescott Leading Up To Deadline

Update:

Todd Archer of ESPN reports that there are no scheduled talks between the Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott before the upcoming deadline to negotiate with franchise players.

Archer admits that things can change quickly with a simple phone call, but there was expected to be “more urgency” from the two parties to get a deal done this summer to ensure Prescott remains in Dallas than there has been.

According to Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram, the Cowboys and Prescott haven’t had any negotiations since March when Dallas offered him a five-year deal worth more than $34 million per year with $110 million guaranteed.

According to Jane Slater, there “isn’t a lot of optimism” the Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott will agree to a long-term deal before Wednesday’s deadline.

Todd Archer adds there are no scheduled talks between Dallas and Prescott’s agent, Todd France.

Slater notes there’s still time given it’s only Monday and deadlines tend to spur action. But as things stand currently, it appears Prescott will play out the 2020 season on the franchise tag.

Prescott has already signed the tender, so there won’t be a threat of a holdout as the two sides continue negotiations the next two days.

Prescott will make $31.4 million fully guaranteed for the 2020 season under the exclusive franchise tag.

Both sides remain hung up on the length of the deal, with Dallas offering five years and Prescott refusing to consider anything longer than four.

Prescott, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $2.72 million contract and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2019, Prescott appeared in all 16 games and completed 65.1 percent of his passes for 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has also rushed for 277 yards and three touchdowns for Dallas. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 10 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

Weโ€™ll have more regarding Prescott and the Cowboys as the news is available.
