Packers Slow Approach To Re-signing Players Could Cost Them Scott Wells & Jarrett Bush

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that the Green Bay Packers are notorious for taking as long as possible to address their free agents which is interesting when you consider that their strategy towards building a roster is to retain the players that they develop.

Silverstein mentions that the Packers will “float offers that many agents consider below-market value in hopes of getting a Josh Sitton or Jordy Nelson to go for the security of a long-term deal.”

But in the case of C Scott Wells, TE Jermichael Finley and CB Jarrett Bush, their preemptive strategy hasn’t worked for them. Silverstein mentions that their “free-agent value is going to be sky high” so waiting until the last minute to get them under contract is taking is a huge gamble for the team.

Silverstein expects discusses to heat up next week during the Scouting Combine so there will likely be plenty of news related to the Packers top free agents by then.
