Panthers Cut S Colin Jones After He Requested Release

According to Joseph Person, Panthers S Colin Jones asked the team to be released and Carolina obliged.

Jones did not want to be a part of what was looking like a rebuilding season for Carolina. Releasing him saves the team $1.1 million with just $200,000 of dead money.

Jones, 32, is a former seventh-round pick of the 49ers back in 2011. He spent one year in San Francisco before he was traded to the Panthers at the start of the 2012 season.

Carolina elected to bring him back on a two-year extension back in 2014 and again following the 2016 season. He re-signed on another two-year deal in 2019.

In 2019, Jones appeared in all 16 games, recording 7 total tackles for Carolina on primarily special teams.
