According to Ian Rapoport, the Panthers are signing LB Tahir Whitehead to a one-year deal.
Whitehead’s deal is worth $2.5 million, with a $1.45 million signing bonus and $1.05 million base salary, per Tom Pelissero.
Whitehead was a starting linebacker for the Raiders in 2019 and should have a good chance at a similar role with Carolina.
It’s worth mentioning that signing Whitehead won’t impact the Panthers in the compensatory pick formula, as he was released by the Raiders earlier this offseason.
Whitehead, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Lions back in 2012. He has played out his rookie contract before agreeing to a two-year deal worth more than $8M with Detroit back in 2016.
The Raiders signed Whitehead to a three year, $19 million in 2018. He was set to make a base salary of $5,950,000 for the 2020 season when he was released.
In 2019, Whitehead appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders and recorded 108 tackles, no sacks or interceptions and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 59 linebacker out of 89 qualifying players.
