Panthers Signing LB Tahir Whitehead To One-Year Deal

According to Ian Rapoport, the Panthers are signing LB Tahir Whitehead to a one-year deal.

Whiteheadโ€™s deal is worth $2.5 million, with a $1.45 million signing bonus and $1.05 million base salary, per Tom Pelissero.

Whitehead was a starting linebacker for the Raiders in 2019 and should have a good chance at a similar role with Carolina.

Itโ€™s worth mentioning that signing Whitehead wonโ€™t impact the Panthers in the compensatory pick formula, as he was released by the Raiders earlier this offseason.

Whitehead, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Lions back in 2012. He has played out his rookie contract before agreeing to a two-year deal worth more than $8M with Detroit back in 2016.

The Raiders signed Whitehead to a three year, $19 million in 2018. He was set to make a base salary of $5,950,000 for the 2020 season when he was released.

In 2019, Whitehead appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders and recorded 108 tackles, no sacks or interceptions and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 59 linebacker out of 89 qualifying players.
