According to Jeremy Fowler, the Panthers and RT Taylor Moton have continued to discuss an extension ahead of today’s deadline.
Fowler characterizes a deal as a long shot but says there’s still a chance the two sides can get something done with just over an hour to go until the deadline.
Earlier in the day, Ian Rapoport also said he’d heard the Panthers and Moton were still negotiating.
The Saints just recently signed RT Ryan Ramczyk to a five-year, $96 million extension that included $60 million guaranteed. Ramczyk is now the highest-paid right tackle in the NFL so this deal will likely factor into the talks between Moton’s reps and the Panthers.
Carolina franchised Moton several months ago and would be on the hook for $13.754 fully guaranteed this season if they can’t get an extension in place.
Moton, 27, was drafted by the Panthers in the second round out of Western Michigan in 2017. He’s set to be an unrestricted free agent after finishing his four-year, $4.158 million rookie deal that paid him a base salary of $1.032 million last season.
In 2020, Moton appeared in all 16 games at right tackle for the Panthers. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 13 overall tackle out of 79 players.
We have him included in our Top 50 – 2022 Free Agents list.
