According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, the Patriots are believed to be among the teams interested in Bills free agent LB Preston Brown.
Howe adds that the Bills are trying to retain Brown and it would be his preference to be back in Buffalo if they meet his asking price.ย If Brown ends up commanding as much as $8 million or so per year, Howe can’t see the Patriots being seriously involved, but should that number drop to something around $5 million, he could be someone to watch for New England.
Brown admitted that the Patriots have done a good job of getting the best of players who have left the Bills and headed to New England.
โItโs a little weird,โ Brown said of his former teammates doingย well for the Patriots. โIโm not going to sit here and lie like, โOh well.โ Youโre happy for them, but youโre also like, all right, every time somebody goes to the Patriots, theyโre going to the Pro Bowl or the Super Bowl. Itโs something you feel. A lot of guys left the last year, and it seemed like everybody who left us was going to the playoffs โ (Rams wide receivers) Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods, (49ers receiver) Marquise Goodwin. Everybody who left had a good season. Itโs definitely something you look at like, wow, those guys are having success. But the Patriots, they definitely seem to get the best out of the Buffalo Bills.โ
Brown, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Bills back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3,005,750 and is now in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2017, Brown appeared in all 16 games for the Bills and recorded 144 tackles, no sacks or interceptions, and three pass defenses.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 42 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.
