Patriots C David Andrews (Blood Clots) Cleared To Return

Patriots C David Andrews announced on Instagram that he is has been medically cleared to return after missing the 2019 season due to blood clots in his lungs. 

“When and whatever the NFL season looks like, I’m just thankful that I’ll be able to get back to competing with my teammates and coaches,” said Andrews, via Mike Reiss of ESPN. 

Andrews, 27, wound up signing a three-year, $1.59 million contract with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia back in May of 2015. He was in the final year of his rookie contract when he agreed to a four-year, $9.615 million contract back in 2017. 

He is entering the final year of his four-year, $6,515,000 contract and is set to make a base salary of $3 million for the 2020 season. 

In 2018, Andrews appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots, making 16 starts at center. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 7 center out of 38 qualifying players last year.
