Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network reports that the Patriots are showing interest in Titans free agent QB Marcus Mariota, given the uncertainty surrounding Tom Brady and his future in New England.
According to Pauline, Mariota is being courted by “several” teams who may have an open competition at quarterback. Pauline adds that another team to watch for Mariota is the Colts, who have also expressed some interest.
Mariota figures to be one of the more interesting quarterbacks to watch this offseason, given that he showed some promise early in his career before losing his starting to job to Ryan Tannehill last year.
Mariota, 26, is a former No. 2 overall pick of the Titans back in 2015. He signed a four-year, $24.214 million rookie contract thatโs fully guaranteed.
The Titans picked up Mariota’s fifth-year option back in April worth $20.922 million for the 2019 season. Mariota will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career this offseason.
In 2019, Mariota appeared in seven games for the Titans and completed 59.4 percent of passes for 1,203 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 129 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
