According to Jason La Canfora, the Patriots are expected to continue looking at trades, big and small, to bolster their team ahead of the deadline on Tuesday.
La Canfora writes that New England is expected to look for ways to improve its offense as the team goes all-in on winning the Super Bowl this season.
Given New England was willing to trade a first-round pick for WR Antonio Brown this offseason, La Canfora believes a first-round pick for Bengals WR A.J. Green, should Cincinnati change its mind and make him available, would be no problem.
The Patriots have still been unable to fill their void at tight end and La Canfora says New England would have interest in Bengals TE Tyler Eifert or Buccaneers TE O.J. Howard if made available.
With problems along the offensive line, La Canfora adds the Patriots would be interested in Redskins LT Trent Williams if Washington also changes its stance on trading the veteran. Other options could include Giants LT Nate Solder, Bengals OL Cordy Glenn or Browns OT Greg Robinson.
While the Patriots won’t hesitate to trade high draft picks for upgrades this season given the year-to-year nature of several prominent figures in the organization, one complication for more trades is the team’s lack of cap space, per Michael Lombardi.
New England has already traded for WR Mohamed Sanu from the Falcons and shipped DE Michael Bennett to the Cowboys this week. Those two moves essentially canceled each other out in terms of cap space and the Patriots don’t have much more wiggle room.
We’ll have more on the upcoming trade deadline as the news is available.
