Patriots Expected To Promote RB Jonas Gray To Active Roster

Ian Rapoport reports that the Patriots are expected to promoteย RB Jonas Gray to their active roster to replaceย RB Stevan Ridley, who is out for the season with a knee injury.

  • Jason La Canforaย mentioned earlier in the day that he wouldย not be surprised if the Patriots promotedย Gray to their active roster for tonight’s game, so this isn’t a big surprise.

The Patriots currently have Shane Vereen listed as their starter with Brandon Bolden and rookie James also on their roster. However, there has been talk thatย Gray could be the best fit to take overย for Ridley given that Bolden is an integral part of the Patriots special teams unit and Vereen and White and smaller backs.

Gray, 24, signed on with the Miami Dolphins as anย undrafted free agent out ofย Notre Dame back in 2012. He was unable to make their final 53-man roster that year and later caught on with the Baltimore Ravens.

New England signed Gray to aย future/reserve contract back in January and later added him to theirย practice squad after roster cuts were made a few months ago.

Gray has yet to appear in an NFL game.
