Patriots Expected To Promote RB Jonas Gray To Active Roster

Ian Rapoport reports that the Patriots are expected to promote RB Jonas Gray to their active roster to replace RB Stevan Ridley, who is out for the season with a knee injury.

  • Jason La Canfora mentioned earlier in the day that he would not be surprised if the Patriots promoted Gray to their active roster for tonight’s game, so this isn’t a big surprise.

The Patriots currently have Shane Vereen listed as their starter with Brandon Bolden and rookie James also on their roster. However, there has been talk that Gray could be the best fit to take over for Ridley given that Bolden is an integral part of the Patriots special teams unit and Vereen and White and smaller backs.

Gray, 24, signed on with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in 2012. He was unable to make their final 53-man roster that year and later caught on with the Baltimore Ravens.

New England signed Gray to a future/reserve contract back in January and later added him to their practice squad after roster cuts were made a few months ago.

Gray has yet to appear in an NFL game.
