Patriots Place LB Dont’a Hightower On Injured Reserve

The New England Patriots have officially placed LB Dont’a Hightower on injured reserve Tuesday, according to Field Yates.

It was clear that Hightower was going to miss the remainder of the year with this injury, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Hightower, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Patriots back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract before the Patriots picked up his fifth-year option last year and tested the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career this offseason.

Ultimately, Hightower returned to the Patriots on a four-year, $35.5 million contract that included $19 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $5.75 million (2018), $7 million (2019), and $8 million (2020) over the remainder of the agreement.

In 2017, Hightower appeared in five games and recorded 14 total tackles and two sacks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 99 edge rusher out of 106 qualifying players.
