Patriots Sign Free Agent LB James Anderson, Waive WR Mark Harrison

The New England Patriots announced the signing of veteran LB James Anderson, as well as the release of WR Mark Harrison.

Anderson was one of several linebackers New England has worked out in recent weeks.  He spent last season with the Chicago Bears, after spending the previous seven with the Panthers.

New England lost linebackers Brandon Spikes and Dane Fletcher to free agency, so Anderson has a good chance at sticking with the team as a reserve.

Anderson graded at No. 33 out of 35 eligible 4-3 outside linebackers.  He graded positively as a coverage linebacker, but his run defense was the worst of all players at the position, according to ProFootballFocus.com. It’s also worth mentioning that Williams led the Bears in tackles last season with 102.

Harrison signed as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Rutgers in 2013.  He was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list for the season.
