Patriots Sign Veteran CB Derek Cox

The New England Patriots announced the signing of veteran CB Derek Cox on Monday.

Even though the Patriots could use some help at cornerback, Cox still faces long odds of making the team’s 53-man roster coming out of the preseason.

Cox, 28, was a free agent bust signing made by the Chargers a few years ago when they gave him a four-year contract worth $20 million that included $10.25 million guaranteed. Even with that kind of contract, Cox was was released after one season.

He signed on with the Ravens back in August of last year, but was among their final roster cuts.

In 2013,  Cox appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers, but totaled just 38 tackles and an interception. Pro Football Focus rated Cox as the No. 104 cornerback in the league out of 110 qualifying players last year.
