Patriots S Patrick Chung’s New Extension Worth $11.5M Extension

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Patriots are signing S Patrick Chung to a short-term contract extension.

  • Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports that Chung receives a two-year extension which brings the total value of his contract to $11.5 million through 2020. Howe adds that Chung will make $5.4 million for the 2018 season.

is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2009. He spent four years in New England before departing for a three-year deal with the Eagles in 2014.

Chung lasted just a year in Philadelphia before he released and later re-signed by the Patriots.

Chung is currently in the final year of his three-year, $9.3 million contract and set to make a base salary of $2 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Chung appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and recorded 84 tackles, one interception, two fumble recoveries and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 42 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
