The Oakland Raiders brought in free agent DB Jermaine Whitehead and DeShawn Shead for tryouts on Monday, according to Adam Caplan.
Whitehead, 26, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn back in May of 2015. He was unfortunately among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason before later signing to the 49ers’ practice squad.
After a brief stint with the Ravens, Whitehead signed on with the Packers before being waived late in 2018. He was claimed off waivers by the Browns before being released last week following derogatory and threatening remarks to fans on social media.
In 2019, Whitehead has appeared in eight games for the Browns and recorded 41 tackles, one forced fumble, one interception and two pass defenses.
Shead, 28, originally signed on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Portland State back in 2012. He returned to the Seahawks on a one-year exclusive rights contract for the 2016 season.
Seattle declined to tender Shead a contract as a restricted free agent back in 2017 but later brought him back on a one-year, $1.5 million contract. From there, he signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Lions in 2018.
Shead agreed to a one-year deal with the Seahawks back in July but was released coming out of the preseason.
In 2018, Shead appeared in 12 games for the Lions and recorded 18 total tackles and one forced fumble.
