Benjamin Allbright reports that the Ravens “would be interested” in Wyoming QB Josh Allen if he were to end up being available to him at No. 16 overall.
Ravens HC John Harbaugh mentioned at the end of the season that they will discuss drafting a quarterback this season, and Allen has the kind of potential that could prove to be too much for a team to pass up in middle portion of round one.
However, Jamison Hensley writes thatย that Baltimore is “financially committed” to Joe Flacco as their starter for another two years. In fact, the Ravens couldn’t move on from Flacco and free up more cap space than dead money until after the 2019 season.
With this in mind, Hensley says many project the Ravens to consider quarterback prospects in the middle rounds of this year’s draft.
Allen’s draft stock took a bit of a hit this week at the Senior Bowl, as his accuracy issues showed up a bit. However, there’s likely to be a team who can’t pass on his potential as an NFL quarterback, so while I’m sure the Ravens would consider using their first-round pick on Allen, no guarantee he lasts that long.
During his college career at Wyoming, Allen threw for 4,912 yards while completing 56.2 percent of his passes to go along with 41 touchdowns 21 interceptions over the course of 26 games. He also rushed for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns for Wyoming.
