Smithson, 25, originally signed on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas back in 2017. He was waived at the start of his rookie season and later re-signed to Washington’s practice squad.
The Redskins would eventually promote Smithson to their active roster in December. However, he was once again among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason the following year.
Smithson signed on to the Cardinals practice squad briefly in December, then joined the Chargers practice squad in January 2019 for a little over a week. Smithson caught on with the Jaguars in July before being waived in August
In 2017, Smithson appeared in two games for the Redskins and recorded one tackle and no interceptions.
