RB Options For The Lions After The Loss Of Mikel Leshoure

It seemed like it was going to take some before free agents running backs like Ricky Williams, Clinton Portis and Tiki Barber but the recent injury to Detroit Lions rookie RB Mikel Leshoure has left them with a big large hole to be addressed.

Tim Twentyman of the Detroit News reports that Leshoure suffered a torn his Achilles tendon and is expected to undergo surgery as soon as tomorrow.

Following Aprils draft, the Detroit Lions were praised for the players that they selected but considering that both Nick Fairley and Leshourse have already gotten injured, the success of this season will end up having much more to do with their veteran players.

ESPN’s John Clayton adds Jerome Harrison’s name to list as a player to watch along with the three veterans that were mentioned above.

As for their options, ESPN’s Adam Schefter added that, “there are still some backs out there — Ricky Williams and Tiki Barber among them. Bottom line: the Lions need to find another back.”

Williams fits their needs considering that Jahvid Best is a versatile running back but Leshoure was brought in to get the though yardage and Williams has shown that he can still run in between the tackles.
