Bruce Feldman reports that the Redskins are expected to hire Kevin O’Connell as their new quarterbacks coach.
Feldman adds that O’Connell was in the mix for college co-offensive coordinator jobs but it sounds like he’ll join the Redskins’ staff.
Reports from the past week or so mentioned that current Redskins QBs coach Matt Cavanaugh could be promoted to offensive coordinator, so this is something to watch in the coming days.
O’Connell, 31, began his coaching career in 2015 with the Browns as their quarterbacks coach. He later joined Chip Kelly’s coaching staff with the 49ers as an offensive assistant.
O’Connell was actually a third-round pick of the Patriots back in 2008. He played for several teams over the course of his pro career including the Lions, Jets, Dolphins and Chargers. He appeared in two games and completed four of six pass attempts for 23 yards passing and no touchdowns for his career.
