According to Ian Rapoport, the Redskins have given OC Kevin O’Connell permission to speak with other teams about openings at offensive coordinator.
O’Connell is well-regarded in league circles for his work as an offensive coordinator and quarterback coach in Washington and seen as a future coaching star.
While Washington would prefer to keep O’Connell for his work developing first-round QB Dwayne Haskins, he has also been linked to an offensive coordinator position with Patriots coach Josh McDaniels if he gets a head coaching position.
OโConnell, 34, is a former third-round pick of the Patriots back in 2008. After five years in the NFL, O’Connell was hired by the Browns as their quarterbacks coach in 2015.
O’Connell spent one year with the 49ers before the Redskins hired him as their quarterbacks coach in 2017. He was promoted to passing game coordinator last year.
