Redskins Interested In Re-Signing LB Zach Brown & CB Bashaud Breeland

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, the Redskins have interest in re-signing free agent LB Zach Brown and CB Bashaud Breeland this offseason.

  • A team source tells Anderson that it “obviously it has to be at the right price” for them to bring either player back.
  • Anderson adds that it’s her understanding that Brown wants to be compensated “like a top 3 inside linebacker.”
  • According to Josina Anderson, the Redskins are expecting WR Terrelle Pryor to “test the market and see what the market bares first.”

Last month, JP Finlay of CSN Washington reported that contract talks between the Redskins and Brown are “ongoing.”

As for Breeland, Finlay reported that he would likely be given an opportunity to test the free agent market next year, but there’s still a chance he could be back in Washington for the 2018 season.

Brown, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Titans back in 2012. He finished his four-year rookie contract with Tennessee before signing a one-year, $1,250,000 contract with the Bills as an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

After finding less interest than anticipated, Brown agreed to a one-year, $2.3 million contract with the Redskins.

In 2017, Brown has appeared in 13 games and recorded 127 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two pass defenses for the Redskins. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 52 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.

Breeland, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.706 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2017, Breeland has appeared in 14 games for the Redskins and recorded 48 tackles, one interception returned for a touchdown and 16 pass defenses. He also contributed 280 kick return yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 70 cornerback out of 121 qualifying players.

We have both Brown and Breeland featured in our Top 100 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
