Tarver, 42, began his coaching career with the 49ers back in 2011 as their offensive quality control coach. After 10 years in San Francisco, Tarver spent one year at Stanford before taking over as the Raiders’ defensive coordinator in 2012.

Albert Breer reports that the Redskins will interview former Bills assistant Rob Ryan for their defensive coordinator position.

  • Chris Russell first reported that Ryan could on the Redskins’ short list of defensive coordinator candidates.

The Redskins have already interviewed Gus Bradley and Mike Pettine for the position, but it’s surprising to hear that they considering Ryan, given how much his units have struggled in over the years.

Washington elected to fire DC Joe Barry and a few assistant coaches a few weeks ago and go in a different direction on defense.ย In 2016, the Redskins were No. 18 points allowed, No. 3 total yards allowed, No. 21 rushing yards allowed and No. 2 passing yards allowed.

Ryan, 54, began his NFL coaching career with the Patriots back in 2000 as their linebackers coach. Since then, he’s worked for a number of teams including the Raiders, Browns, Cowboys, and Saints as their defensive coordinators.

After being fired by the Saints in 2015, Ryan joined his brother’s coaching staff with the Bills as their assistant head coach/defense. However, Buffalo elected to fire both Rex and Rob towards the end of the season.

We’ll have more regarding the Redskins’ defensive coordinator search as the news is available.
