Redskins In Negotiations To Promote Matt Cavanaugh To Offensive Coordinator

Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins are currently in negotiations to promote Matt Cavanaugh to offensive coordinator. Although, Jones says that nothing is official with Cavanaugh at this point in time.

This comes after the news that the Redskins are promoting outside linebackers coach Greg Manusky to defensive coordinator.

A few days ago, reports surfaced that the Redskins are expected to hire Kevin O’Connell as their quarterbacks coach, so the logical move is for Washington to promote Cavanaugh to coordinator, replacing Sean McVay who agreed to become the head coach of the Rams.

Cavanaugh, 60, began his NFL coaching career with the Steelers back in 1992 and has worked for a number of teams including the Cardinals, 49ers, Bears, Ravens, Panthers, and Jets.

Cavanaugh has spent the past seven years working as a quarterbacks coach and was hired by the Redskins in 2015. He last worked as an offensive coordinator for the University of Pittsburgh from 2005-2008 and won a Super Bowl as the Ravens’ offensive coordinator back in 2000.

We will have more regarding the Redskins and Cavanaugh as the news is available.
