Redskins Now Open To Trading LT Trent Williams

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Redskins are now open to trading holdout LT Trent Williams and have begun the process of looking at potential suitors with the Browns being one.

  • Albert Breer hears Washington is looking for a first-round pick in return for Williams.
  • According to Tom Pelissero, the Redskins have told teams they have a second-round pick on the table for Trent Williams, so it appears that they’re waiting for a team to offer them a first-rounder to get a deal done.
  • JP Finlay reports that the Redskins’ asking price for Williams is high and they may want a playmaker in return, and not just draft compensation.

The Browns have reportedly made several inquires about Williams’ availability, but Washington had maintained that they were planning to hold on to him until next year.

It makes sense that the Redskins would move Williams now for the right deal, so this will be something to keep an eye on leading up to tomorrow’s deadline.

Williams requested either a trade or release earlier this offseason and has reportedly vowed not to play for Washington in 2019.

Williams, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2010. He currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $66 million contract that includes $43.25 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $11 million and $12.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Williams started 13 games for the Redskins.  Pro Football Focus rated Williams as the No. 21 tackle out of 80 qualifying players.

We’ll have more on the situation with the Redskins and Williams as the news is available.
