According to Ian Rapoport, the Redskins have offered G Brandon Scherff a contract extension worth more than $13 million per year.
The deal would put Scherff near the top of the market for guards, per Rapoport, However, negotiations “have not gotten off the ground” and Rapoport says it appears Scherff is heading toward becoming the NFL’s highest-paid guard next offseason.
Scherff, 27, is a former No. 5 overall pick by the Redskins out of Iowa in the 2015 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $21.215 million fully guaranteed rookie contract and is playing out the fifth-year option on that deal.
The Redskins picked up Scherff’s option last May and will pay him $12,525,000 for the 2019 season.
In 2019, Scherff has started both games for the Redskins so far. He’s rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 8 guard out of 74 qualifying players.
We’ll have more on Scherff as the news is available.
