Redskins HC Jay Gruden announced Friday that they’re starting Colt McCoy at quarterback Sunday against New England.
Gruden said he knows who his backup quarterback will be but isnโt making that public yet.
Indications were that Gruden was leaning towards McCoy with Case Keenum dealing with an injury and their reluctance to play rookie QB Dwayne Haskins.
McCoy, 33, is a former third-round pick out of Texas by the Browns back in 2010. He was traded from Cleveland to the 49ers back in 2013 and later signed on with Washington as an unrestricted free agent in 2014.
McCoy stands to make a base salary of $3 million for the 2019 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2018, McCoy appeared in three games for the Redskins and completed 63 percent of his passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
