Redskins Worked Out Three Safeties Including Dexter McCoil

According to Howard Balzer, the Washington Redskins brought in three free agent safeties for workouts on Wednesday including S Dexter McCoil, S Stephen Roberts, and S Jack Tocho.

Of this group, the Redskins signed Tocho to their practice squad.

McCoil, 26, wound up going undrafted out of Tulsa back in 2013. He signed on with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2014 and played safety for them during his two years in the CFL.

The Chargers signed him to a future/reserve contract last year only to cut him loose during the season. McCoil was claimed off of waivers by the 49ers, but was waived after this year’s draft.

The 49ers signed him to their practice squad once passing through waivers unclaimed but elected to cut him loose in October.

He has worked out for the Patriots and Cardinals since becoming a free agent but left both meetings without a contract.

In 2017, McCoil appeared in 10 games for the Chargers and 49ers, and recorded five tackles and no interceptions.
