Lions Signing K Alex Henery & Releasing K Nate Freese

Josh Katzenstein of the Detroit News is reporting that the Lions are signing former Eagles K Alex Henery and releasing rookie K Nate Freese.

Henery was among the free agent kickers that worked out for Detroit last week and given that Freese missed yet another field goal in Sunday’s win over the Packers, it makes sense that they would consider moving on.

Henery was cut loose by the Eagles last weekend as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players. Henery ultimately lost the starting job rookie Cody Parkey. He also worked out for the Jaguars in recent weeks.

Henery, 27, converted 1 of 3 field goal attempts this preseason. Last year, Henery was successful on 82.1 percent of his field goal attempts and made one of two tries from at least 50 yards.
