Darren Wolfson says it sounds like Vikings free agent DE Stephen Weatherly is close to a deal with the Panthers on Monday.
- Adam Caplan reports that Weatherly is signing a two-year, $12.5 million contract.
Weatherly’s agent has confirmed that he’s signing with the Panthers:
Congratulations Stephen. I am proud of you and I know the best is yet to come. Charlotte, @Panthers fans, you got a great one. You have a huge heart and will have an instant impact on that community. Minnesota will miss you dearly pic.twitter.com/zoEumlHo2r

Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press recently reported that the Vikings are considering a potential contract extension for Weatherly, but it appears as though the Panthers surfaced as his best option in free agency.
Weatherly, 25, is a former seventh-round pick of the Vikings back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $2.42 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $720,000 for the 2019 season.
Weatherly was testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2018, Weatherly appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 35 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense.
