Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston reports that the Patriots are signing veteran DE Will Smith to a contract.
New England hosted Smith for a visit back in early April and since then reports mentioned that the Patriots were considered to be the favorites to sign him to a contract.
The Seahawks came up as a speculative option, however, nothing serious ever came from the suggestion.
Smith, 32, sat out the 2013 season after having been placed on the injured reserve with a torn ACL that he suffered during the Saints’ย third preseason game.
Two years ago, Smith appeared in all 16 games for New Orleans and totaledย 58 tackles and six sacks, but unfortunately was rated as the second worst 4-3 defensive end in the league by Pro Football Focus.
We hadย him listed as the No. 11ย player in ourย Best Available Free Agents list.
