Woody Paige of the Denver Post, citing a pair of unnamed sources, is reporting that Broncos QBย Peyton Manning will retire and ride off into the sunset following the team’s Super Bowl 50 win.

  • According to Page,ย Manning is expected to make a formal announcement at some point nextย week.
  • Page adds that “it’s implausible that Manning would opt to sign with another team for one season.
  • Alex Marvez of FOX Sportsย is also reporting that the Broncos are proceeding with contract negotiations with other players as thoughย Manningย will be retiring from the NFL.

The Broncos said that they were giving Manning all the time he needs in making a decision about his future in the NFL. However, they had to know before the start of free agency in March.

Previous reports have said that Manning could transition to being a front office executive or join an ownership group at some point.

Manning, 39, wasย entering the finalย year of his five-year, $96 million contractย that includesย $18 million guaranteed.ย He was set to make a base salary of $19 million in 2016.

There’s no question that Manning is a first-ballot Hall of Fame selection.

Over the course of his 18-year NFL career, Manning threw for 71,940 yards to go along with 539 touchdowns and 251 interceptions for the Colts and Broncos.

He’s a two-time Super Bowl champion, a five-time MVP, a seven-time All-Pro first-team selection and has won the Offensive Player of the Year award twice and the Comeback Player of the Year award.

We’ll have more updates regarding Manning as the news is available.
