Rex Grossman As The Redskins Starting QB?

For the last few months it has been widely reported that Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan was planning on moving forward with John Beck as the teams starting quarterback but things may have changed since last Monday as the Redskins have released their depth chart and Rex Grossman‘s name is sitting in the No. 1 spot.

John Beck is not current healthy which could have impacted the teams decision to list Grossman above Beck. Rex finished the 2010 season as the teams starting quarterback so there’s also a chance that they chose to pickup where they left off.

Shanahan has but himself in an interesting situation this year. Following the teams terrible performance last season as well as the Donovan McNabb and Albert Haynesworth drama, Shanahan will have plenty of pressure to show that the team is heading in the right direction but the only problem is that he has chosen to go with a largely unproven group of quarterbacks. It’s smart if they’re looking to win the Andrew Luck lottery but that strategy doesn’t usually payoff when you job could be riding on your performance this year.
