According to former Colts WR Reggie Wayne, S Antoine Bethea is signing a two-year deal with the New York Giants.

It’s worth mentioning that signing him to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Bethea, 34, is a former sixth-round pick of the Colts back in 2006. He spent eight years in Indianapolis before signing a four-year, $21 million contract with the 49ers back in 2014.

Bethea was set to make a base salary of $5.25 million for the 2017 season when the 49ers released him and he later signed a three-year, $12.75 million contract with the Cardinals in 2017.

In 2018, Bethea appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and recorded 121 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and four pass defenses.

  1. Hey Logan! Yourself, Bouda, Aditi Kinky and everyone else at NFLTR must have a “field day” reporting on the GMEN.

This is the best the GMEN could do for the secondary is signing Antoine Bethea?! Remember! Bethea played for Bettcher’s 3-4 defense in 2017 and Bethea had one of his worse seasons numbers wise. Yet! A year later in 2018, Bethea under Steve Wilks’ 4-3 defense had a monster season with 121 total tackles.

If I’m not mistaken, Bethea is a 10 year older version of Landon Collins more or less. Bethea in 13 seasons has 75 passes defended and Collins in 4 seasons has 32 passes defensed. Both can get you 100 tackles in a season. And in 2016, Collins was a Top 5 candidate for DPOY, which Collins deserved to win. I don’t think Bethea was even close to DPOY in his entire career.

I keep telling everyone that the GMEN Ownership, GM and HC have NO clue on how to right the ever sinking GMEN ship. And this “dinosaur” signing proves it.

What happened to Deone Buchanon? Buchanon is 6-7 years younger and is a hybrid safety/LB, the Cards just signed LB Jordan Hicks, I’m sure Buchanon is now expendable and available. Why not inquire with the Jets on the availability of LB Darren Lee, now that the Jets signed LB CJ Moseley. Maybe! A trade of Alec Ogletree to his ‘ole DC Gregg Williams for Darren Lee’s services could come to fruition via a phone call.

Signings like Bethea are not moving the GMEN forward. They are just stop gap moves. Because the powers that be are now in a “knee jerk” re-active state of mind. Now! It is just filling roster spots for the sake of filling roster spots.
