Nick Underhill of NewOrleansFootball.com reports that the Saints are activating DT Sheldon Rankins from the injured reserve list and placing WR Marquez Callaway on the list.
The Saints confirmed the news and also announced that they’ve promoted OL Will Clapp, WR Juwan Johnson, WR Tommylee Lewis, DE Anthony Zettel and CB Grant Haley to their active roster.
It’s worth mentioning that the NFL changed the rules regarding injured reserve for the 2020 season and players can return from the list in just three weeks.
Rankins, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Saints back in 2016. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $12.8 million contract when the Saints picked up his fifth-year option this past April.
New Orleans reworked Rankins’ contract before t4he start of the season, which allows him to become a free agent in 2021.
In 2020, Rankins has appeared in seven games for the Saints and recorded 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
