Earlier in the week, Saints QB Drew Brees expressed some frustration regarding the lack of progress towards a long-term agreement with the team.
Saints GM Mickey Loomis did his best to disarm any concerns about their franchise quarterback on Friday.
“This is important,”ย said Loomis, viaย WWLTV New Orleans.ย “Itโs not just important to Drew, but itโs important to our team. The magnitude of this contract is going to impact our team for a long, long period of time. So, weโve got to get it right.”
Loomis added that this is the most important contract that he’s ever been apart of and assured those inย attendanceย forย the Saints Hall of Fameย inductees that a deal will eventually get done.
I’m pretty sure that everyone has been under the assumption that a contract will eventually be finalized, but the real concern is why it’s taken thisย long to get one of the best players in the game under contract. I mentioned this numerous times, but there are at least 20 NFL team’s that wish they had this problem. Brees is not only the face of the franchise, but he’s arguably the most important player to the city in which he plays. New Orleans would be wise to get him under contract as soon as possible, so he can be there to help what’s left of the Saints coaching staff prepare for the upcoming season.
