Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Saints have placed WR Michael Thomas on the PUP list to open training camp.
Thomas still counts against the team’s 90-man roster at this time. However, Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the day that Thomas is expected to open the regular season on PUP list, which will cost him the first six games of the season.
Thomas suffered the ankle injury last September and it resulted in him missing most of the 2020 season. Unfortunately, it appears to be bad enough that will at least impact a portion of the 2021 season.
Thomas, 28, was drafted by the Saints in the second round out of Ohio State in 2016. He was entering the final year of a four-year, $5.118 million rookie contract when he agreed to a five-year, $100 million extension in 2019.
In 2020, Thomas appeared in seven games for the Saints and caught 40 passes for 438 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
