Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports on Sunday that the Saints have signed HC Sean Payton to a new five-year extension.
Jason La Canfora confirms the news and adds that Payton is now under contract through the 2024 season. La Canfora says Payton secured a “mega-deal” from the Saints.
There has been a lot of speculation about Payton’s future in New Orleans. The idea of Payton ending up with the Cowboys has been a popular rumor.
However, Payton has maintained that he loves being the Saints’ head coach and he’ll now remain in New Orleans for the foreseeable future.
Payton, 55, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles as their QBs coach back in 1997. He later joined the Giants for three seasons before the Cowboys hired him as their assistant HC/QBs coach for the 2003 season.
The Saints brought Payton in as their head coach for the 2006 and he’s remained in New Orleans since then.
For his career, Payton has led the Saints to a record of 119-74 (61.7 percent), which includes seven playoff appearances and one Super Bowl title in 2009.
