The New Orleans Saints announced on Thursday that they’ve reached an agreement with former Rams OT Jason Smith.
Smith receives a one-year deal from the Saints after being released by the Jets earlier in the offseason.
He’s a former No. 2 overall pick back in 2009, but has only managed to startย 26 games during his NFL career. Smith has been given bust label after falling well short of expectations.
New Orleans could really use some help at offensive tackle, but it’s hard to imagine Smith stepping in and filling the void left by Jermon Bushrod‘s decision to depart for the Bears.
On a positive note, Smith actually had a decent rating last year, according to Pro Football Focus. It is, however, worth mentioning that he only played 265 snaps for the Jets in 2012, so this is a fairly small sample size.
