Saints Tried Out LB Trevardo Williams, DE Gerald Rivers, & DE Josh Shirley

According to Katherine Terrell of The Times-Picayune, the New Orleans Saints tried out some defensive players on Monday including OLB Trevardo Williams, DE Gerald Rivers, and DE Josh Shirley on Monday.

Williams, 26, is the most notable of the three players. He’s a former fourth-round pick of Texans back in 2013, but lasted just a year in Houston before he was placed on waivers.

The Cardinals wound up claiming Williams off of waivers, but he lasted less than a week with the team.

After that, he played briefly for the Colts before joining the Redskins in December of last year. However, Washington waived him with an injury settlement this past weekend.

In 2014, Williams appeared in three games for Washington and recorded five tackles and a sack.

Rivers, 25, originally signed on with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi back in 2013. Since then, Rivers has played for a number of teams including the Jaguars, Dolphins, Broncos and most recently for the Giants.

Rivers hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2013 season when he was playing for the Jaguars.
