Seahawks HC Pete Carroll mentioned during an appearance on 710 ESPN Seattleโs โBrock and Salkโ show that theyโre considering backup quarterback options including Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III.
โWeโre looking at everybody. We really are,โ Carroll said when asked specifically about Kaepernick and RGIII, via ESPN.com. โWeโve been tracking everything thatโs going on, and weโve got cap and roster issues and stuff like that that weโre still trying to manage properly. But quite frankly, yes, we are looking at all those guys.โ
Earlier in the day, Peter King of TheMMQB.com mentioned that he thinks the Seahawks make sense as a landing spot for Kaepernick given their lack of depth at the position.
As of now, Seattle has Trevone Boykin, Jake Heaps, Skyler Howard and Michael Birdsong behind Russell Wilson, so it could make sense for them to bring in someone with more experience at the position.
Neither Kaepernick nor Griffin has generated much free agent interest up to this point, but it could be that teams what to see how their roster looks during OTAs before bringing in other options.
Both players would give the Seahawks a mobile backup whoโs capable of making plays outside of the pocket much like Wilson.
